A Winning Label Front Page

As you’ve probably seen, I have only a couple of the many wine labels I’ve created for Home Brew Hutzenbiler Winery in my blog. Every year, these labels are submitted into the Wine Maker’s Magazine label contest. I don’t usually expect to do well in this competitions because these labels are more-or-less for fun. Last year, I received an honorable mention for my Chilean Carmenere label. This year, however, I was surprised to see that I received second place for my 2008 Classic Harvest Collection California Cabernet Syrah Zinfandel Wine Label… whew, now that’s a name.

Quite the Title

Quite the Title

This particular wine is a blended red wine which combines many of the best qualities of a Cabernet, Syrah, and Zinfandel into one delicious wine. Trying to design a label for a wine with a title longer than the alphabet posed quite a challenge. In this case, I went for more of a typographic style and made the title the most prominent item on the label. The font I chose is a Clarendon variation in bold. I used some basic kerning and leading tricks to make the title a little more visual on the label. The only thing left was a background which is of a naked wine bottle and nice brown paper bag texture.
